OIFW Showcases DEI with Successful Model Casting at CityArts Sponsord by Downtown Arts District
October 23, 2024 – Orlando, FL – Orlando International Fashion Week (OIFW) held its second model casting call for the upcoming November fashion shows, drawing a diverse and talented pool of over 150 models to CityArts Gallery in downtown Orlando. Sponsored by the Downtown Arts District, this casting call further exemplified OIFW’s international reach and commitment to celebrating global talent, which aligns with its mission to spotlight fashion on an international stage.

The casting, held on October 20, followed a successful first call in September and created a palpable buzz across the city. The excitement was tangible as models, brimming with anticipation, lined up to showcase their skills. The casting panel, which included four fashion designers and several advisory board members, noted the exceptional quality of talent. Many panelists remarked on how difficult it was to make decisions, with one stating, “There are so many great models! How do you choose?”
The day ran smoothly thanks to the dedicated efforts of volunteers and team members. Kathleen, Daryl, and Cheryl provided invaluable support with registration and lining up models, ensuring the process was seamless. Miles from CityArts staff and Ashleigh from the OIFW team greeted and hosted guests throughout the day, creating a welcoming and vibrant atmosphere. Adding to the excitement, DJ, a brand ambassador model, took photos with participants, adding to the festive energy.
A true reflection of OIFW’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, the event catered to participants from various cultural and linguistic backgrounds. Children and teen fashion designer Anita Cleveland engaged younger participants by speaking to them in Spanish, offering encouragement and advice for their runway debuts. At the same time, Vanessa Salazar provided translation for adult models, ensuring everyone felt included and valued. Panelists further connected with models in their native languages, including Russian (Lana Light, Advisory Board Member) and French (Nadege Ngongo, Advisory Board Member).
The model casting attracted participants from various backgrounds, with models traveling from cities like Miami, Atlanta, Jacksonville, Tampa, and Gainesville. Models with roots in Paris and Venezuela added even more cultural richness to the event, reinforcing OIFW’s global appeal and its mission to create an inclusive space where talent from all walks of life can shine.

The model casting wasn’t just limited to the runway; it also opened doors to other opportunities, including brand ambassadorships, influencer roles, and atmosphere modeling for various events. Performances and future photoshoots before and after Fashion Week were also part of the exciting slate of opportunities presented to the models.
CityArts Café curated a special menu featuring coffee, drinks, and mimosas, available for purchase throughout the day. This allowed attendees to relax and mingle after the casting. Many stayed behind to enjoy the art gallery and socialize over refreshments.

For those who missed both castings, OIFW encourages filling out a model application on their website to stay updated on future opportunities. With multiple shows scheduled between November 10-17, and hosts like Michelle Imperato & Jason Guy, and Christina Carmona set to grace the closing shows, OIFW promises an unforgettable experience.
