Orlando International Fashion Week is delighted to announce that Orlando city official Luis Martinez, from the Office of Multicultural Affairs City of Orlando, has officially endorsed Orlando International Fashion Week as an esteemed “Advocate.” With his extensive experience and dedication to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion, Mr. Martinez’s support is a testament to the event’s commitment to enhancing international tourism to Florida and enriching the fashion industry.Luis M. MartÃnez-Alicea, a distinguished professional, holds a bachelor’s degree in Communications from the University of Sacred Heart of Puerto Rico and a master’s degree in Business Administration from Ana G. Méndez University, Orlando. In his pursuit of excellence, he has earned The DiversityFIRSTâ„¢ Certification by the National Diversity Council, establishing himself as a certified diversity professional.Mr. Martinez’s passion for empowering young talent is exemplified through his founding of Starlight Productions, a Puerto Rico-based nonprofit organization. Through this initiative, he encouraged talented children and youth to develop their artistic abilities by providing training and opportunities in musical theater performances. He demonstrated exceptional leadership by spearheading media and public relations efforts, raising community awareness about the organization’s mission and goals, forging partnerships with corporations and government agencies, and organizing successful fundraising events and promotional initiatives.Since his relocation to Orlando in 2000 to advance his professional career and pursue a master’s degree in business, Luis Martinez has made significant contributions to the community. His roles as a marketing coordinator and reporter at El Nuevo Dia newspaper, as well as director of marketing & recruitment at Ana G. Mendez University, Metro Orlando Campus, have allowed him to implement effective strategies that fostered strong community bonds, increased corporate branding, and promoted diversity within the student population.In January 2012, Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer appointed Luis Martinez to establish the city’s Office of Multicultural Affairs, further emphasizing the importance of engaging the Hispanic, multicultural, and LGBTQ+ communities within the municipality. As an advocate for diversity, inclusion, and equity, Mr. Martinez advises the Mayor on the implementation of city policies, advocates for initiatives that promote diversity and inclusion, and serves as the Mayor’s spokesperson to Hispanic/multicultural media. Additionally, he manages international relations and Spanish communications, coordinates cultural events, and develops community outreach strategies to ensure residents, newcomers, and businesses from diverse cultural backgrounds are well-informed about city services and programs. Maintaining valuable relationships with multiethnic chambers of commerce, professional associations, and consulates further amplifies his impact.We are proud to have Mr. Luis Martinez’s endorsement as an “Advocate” for Orlando Fashion Week.
